Thomson recently continued to rise by winning the Gooding Pro Rodeo and the Canby Rodeo last weekend. Those two wins earned him more than $8,000 combined. Just a few weeks ago, he was No. 17 in the world.

Cody DeMoss, a 13-time NFR qualifier, is close to his first berth since 2017. The 40-year-old has won eight rodeos this season and while many of those came early on in the year, he shared the buckle at the Cache County Fair Xtreme Broncs on Aug. 11. DeMoss, who is No. 12 in the world, has spent most of the year in the Top 10, he was as high as No. 4 in the world in late May and early June.

Things start to get extra tight between No. 13 and No. 16 with about $2,500 separating Layton Green ($62,687) and Lefty Holman ($60,968). Green and Holman’s seasons are heading in opposite directions this month. On Aug. 9, Holman was 11th and Green was 16th.

In 14th is Spencer Wright who is looking to return to Vegas for the fourth time. He is squarely on the bubble after spending most of the summer in or around the Top 10. Wright has made seven checks in August, however, the largest one has been just $837.

Finally, Tegan Smith holds onto the coveted 15th spot. The Iowa cowboy got has gotten a much-needed boost in the last five day by finishing earning three checks worth between $1,709 and $2,717 from Aug. 21-26.

The cowboys who are still in the mix, but have a little more work to do are: Shorty Garrett ($51,186), Mitch Pollock ($51,131), Logan Cook ($47,912) and Logan Hay ($47,805).

A couple of noteworthy cowboys are also off the bubble for the time being. After the Xtreme Broncs Tour Finale on Aug. 26, Ben Andersen and Wade Sundell jumped up from 16th and 21st respectively to 9th and 10th in the world. Andersen won $13,387 in Rapid City while Sundell earned $23,260. They were two of four cowboys to earn five figures at the event.
