The Kentucky Derby featured one of the most shocking upsets in the race’s history. On Friday Night Rich Strike wasn’t in the field, but on Saturday the 80-1 longshot was crowned champion.
Rich Strike was well back in the field, but near the final straightaway made an incredible push to the front. The last time a horse with longer odds won the Derby dates back to 1913 when the winner was a 90-1 long shot.
Prior to Saturday’s win, Rich Strike had career earnings of just over $210,000. At the Derby, he won $1.8 million.
