If you need to have any deep discussions on animal welfare, you need to bring in the stock contractors.
On Rural America Live, 12-time PRCA Stock Contractor fo the Year nominee Pete Carr discussed his breeding program, showed how a flank strap works and dispelled some myths about why animals buck.
All in all, being a bucking horse or bull is a good gig if you can get it. Carr says his animals end up working for about one minute a year each.
“You spend five years bringing ‘em around, raising ‘em, watching them grow up before you even take them to a rodeo,” he said. “It’s like your kid, when they do perform, you want to stick out your chest and be real proud of them like a soccer dad.”
