The breakaway roping is the fasted event in rodeo and reigning World Champion, Sawyer Gilbert, proved that. She roped her calf in 1.7 seconds in Bracket 3, Round 1 to get the round win at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
“You know, I’ve done it enough times that it actually felt pretty slow, I didn’t think I was 1.7,” Gilbert said.
On top of roping multiple calves in under two seconds, Gilbert has set the world record on the horse that she is roping on in Fort Worth. The young cowgirl’s season is off to a good start, and she is one to keep an eye on.
Madison Outhier came in second and is advancing to the Semifinals along with Gilbert, Katie Mundorf has advanced to the Wild Card Round.
