Shane Hanchey won the Wrangler NFR Average in the tie-down roping in December of last year and finished within $2,500 of another Gold Buckle.
Part of the Louisiana cowboy’s problem in 2020 was he did not have a major win throughout the year to bolster him heading into Arlington. In 2021, he won’t have that issue as he is currently the No. 1 man in the world after winning RFD-TV’s The American.
Hanchey was 7.74 seconds in the Shootout Round to win and add $50,000 to his PRCA World Standings total. It was the first time he’d advanced to Sunday in eight appearances at The American. His time was just a bit faster than fellow World Champion Tuf Cooper, who was 8.14.

“You know, I just feel like I’m the best roper in the world and if you don’t believe that, then you’re not it. Confidence is the main key in this game from bareback riding to bull riding,” he said.
Hanchey continued to ride TJ, a horse he rode at Globe Life Field in December, and said without TJ’s horsepower he would not have won The American.
